Privacy policy
Last updated: November 2026.
Heat Pump Hot Water Guide is an information website. It has no accounts, no forms and no calculators that send data anywhere. This policy explains what is collected when you visit, which tools collect it, and how to switch them off.
Information you give me
If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you write. I use it only to reply and to fix any error you report. I do not add you to a mailing list or share your email.
Server logs
Like any website, the hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and reliability.
Analytics: which tools does the site use?
I use analytics to see which guides are useful, which questions people arrive with, and where pages are confusing. The tools are:
- Google Tag Manager (Google). It loads the two tools below. It does not collect anything about you on its own.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google). It records the pages you view, roughly where you are (country and city, worked out from your IP address), your device and browser, how you reached the site, and what you do on a page: how far you scroll, how long you read, which links you click (including links to official program pages and manufacturer websites), and when you copy text (only how much is copied, never the text). It sets cookies named
_gaand_ga_followed by an id. - Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft). It records how visitors use a page, such as mouse movement, clicks and scrolling, and turns that into session recordings and heatmaps so I can see where a page is hard to use. Clarity masks text you type. It sets cookies named
_clckand_clsk.
The site also measures page speed (how quickly pages load and respond) and sends those numbers to Google Analytics.
I do not try to identify you, and I do not combine this data with anything else about you. I see it as reports and anonymous recordings.
Where is the data stored?
Google and Microsoft process and store analytics data on their own servers, which may be outside Australia (for example in the United States). Their own privacy policies apply to that data.
How can I opt out?
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
- Use your browser's private mode, or a browser or extension that blocks trackers.
There is no cookie banner: this site follows the Australian approach of telling you here what is collected and how to opt out.
Advertising
Advertising is not active on this site at the moment. Google AdSense may be added later to cover the site's costs. If it is, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve personalised ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on those visits. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and this policy will be updated before any ads appear.
Cookies
The site itself does not need cookies to work. The only cookies are the analytics cookies named above (and advertising cookies, if ads are ever switched on).
